- As the data-center has become more distributed and operating systems
and applications have become more 'user-friendly', it has become
harder and harder to determine the utilization, health or capacity
of computing resources?
Somewhere along the path from mainframe to client-server, control
over key elements affecting the performance of business computer
systems was allowed to slip into the hands of the users;
unfortunately, responsibility for computer performance has remained
solidly with I.S. staff and management. The resulting inability to effectively manage these 'state of the art'computing environments has been chiefly responsible for the de-evolution of systems analysis and performance management from the critical roles of yesterday into the 'nice-to-have', back-burner activities that they are in many places today.
This session will reintroduce lost (or abandoned) 'mainframe'
performance management strategies and policies re-engineered to fit
the new realities of the 'open systems' world. This session will be lightly technical, non-platform specific and focus on helping
accomplish disciplined performance management and capacity planning
against all odds.
