Programmers to Tool Users
Topic Area:
Track: General Topic
Topic: Internals
Type:  Breakout Session

Schedule:
11/08/99   11:30 AM     Duration: 60 Min.     Room: 11B

Presenter:
T.W. Heim Jr.
Grand Wazoo, Heim EnterpriZes

Abstract:
The state of the Programming/Software Engineering profession has become more a group of "Tool Users" rather than innovators. From "The Humble Programmer" and all night programming sessions with nothing but Pizza, Beer and a passion to make it fit in 64K to the fast paced world of the Internet and Visual Everything. From "The Soul of a New Machine" to "Show Stopper". From "Pong" to dazzling 3D graphics. From "Triumph of the Nerds" to "Pirates of Silicon Valley". Our profession has taken leaps into amazing new technologies over the last few decades and who knows what is to come in the next century. What I propose to present is an evolution of the profession from the days when Programming was not even considered a job to present day methodologies and future trends.
