Abstract:
This presentation details the hardware considerations to be made when configuring high-end AlphaServer systems for optimal performance. Recently updated with information on Compaq's newest flagship GS AlphaServer, the talk addresses the techniques for selecting, sizing and configuring CPU, memory and I/O. Learn how to 'design' large-scale systems and clusters for a range of commercial workloads. Discover the unique advantages provided by Alpha processors - the fastest in the industry. Get acquainted with the new configuration rules for Compaq's AlphaServer and StorageWorks subsystems. The session will employ UNIX case studies and current industry standard benchmarks data to illustrate 'reasonable' performance expectations and practical tradeoffs.
