Compaq's Linux Strategy: Roadmap and Update

Abstract:
This presentation will review the current state of Compaq's Linux Strategy for the Intel and Alpha product families, the current plans for market focus within key market segments and solution/application domains, and plans for service and support rollouts by Compaq service groups. We will also discuss the status of relationships with major Linux distributors such as Red Hat, Caldera, SuSE and TurboLinux. A review of current and planned solution sets and ActiveAnswers will be provided, as will a review of Compaq-provided value-added technology for the Linux environments. Review of current tools and ISV partnerships will be included, as will a discussion on the Compaq GEM-based compilers and tools being ported to Alpha Linux. Currently available performance and benchmarking information will also be provided to help position system platforms. Channels and reseller linkages and programs will be reviewed to help customers understand product availability and ordering options.

Objectives:
Understand and articulate Compaq's overall Linux strategy for Alpha and Intel systems, including technology directions, key market segment focus, and core application solution offerings
 
Understand and articulate Compaq's plans for partnerships and value added engineering with key Linux distributors, ISVs and other stake holders in the Linux marketplace
 
Understand and articulate Compaq's positioning of Tru64 UNIX, Linux Intel, Linux Alpha and SCO UNIX
