Abstract:
The purpose of this session is to allow attendees to learn first hand about Compaq's innovations concerning hardware and software partitioning. Specifics concerning how hardware (including Compaq's new 64 bit flag ship AlphaServer), console firmware and operating systems (OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX) are impacted within a partitioned environment will be discussed. Standard hardware configuration guidelines including paths to upgrade existing AlphaServer 8400s and GS140s to multi-partitioned OS environments will be presented and fully discussed.

Objectives:
Outline Compaq's definitions of hardware and software partitioning
 
Provide specific details of how Compaq is supporting and implementing hardware and software partitions on AlphaServers
 
Discuss with the audience their experience with partitions and how hardware and software partitions will benefit them  

Prerequisites for attendees:
None

Required Skill Level:
Intermediate
